Ahead of the AFC Cup 2023 qualifiers, India lost to Jordan at the Qatar Sports Club ground. The Blue Tigers now prepare for the qualifiers.
The Indian team started off well, creating a couple of chances but were unable to test the Jordan goal.
Throughout the first half, the Indian players showed neat footwork in the defensive third but, were unable to do so in the offensive third.
India’s main strategy of finding the forward men with a long ball, did not work according to their plans as the Jordan defenders marshalled the forwards well.
Sunil Chettri, record goal scorer, had very little impact in the first half.
He was not able to get the ball under control and when he did, there were 2/3 players closing up on him and as a result, lost possession.
On the other hand, Jordan’s strategy was to play the long ball over India’s defense and in front of the goalkeeper. Even this, did not work as planned by the Jordan coach.
In the second half, Jordan started creating better chances. But, it was India who came closest. In the 65th minute, Mohammed Yasir’s freekick disturbed the bar. A close call for the Jordan defense but, the score remained 0-0.
Not for long though, as Monther Abu Amara blast his shot past Gurpreet to give Jordan a 1-0 lead.
A spectacular strike to break the deadlock at the Qatar Sports Club ground.
Chances were few and far till the 94th minute, where Jordan doubled their lead.
Monther Abu Amara turned provider this time, as an intricate 1-2 with Mohammad Abu Zrayq helped the latter shoot past Gurpreet and into the net.
A 2-0 loss for the men in blue tonight.
