In response to threats by unnamed journalists, the BCCI is likely to probe Wriddhiman Saha’s tweets

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to investigate the screenshot of threatening messages sent to Wriddhiman Saha by an unnamed journalist. On February 19, the senior India wicketkeeper took to Twitter to share a screengrab of his conversation with the journalist, who appeared to threaten the cricketer for refusing to speak with him about the Test snub.

The Indian Cricketers Association has also raised the issue with the BCCI’s top brass, demanding an investigation to protect the interests of other players from future bullying, India Today has learned.

During his conversation with the journalists, Wirddhiman Saha is likely to be asked by the BCCI to confirm the turn of events and may even be asked to name the person in question. Notably, Saha did not name the journalist in his social media post.

On Twitter, Saha shared screenshots of the messages and wrote: “After all of my contributions to Indian cricket, this is what I get from a “respected” journalist! This is where journalism has devolved (sic).” In a one-sided message exchange, the journalist was seen telling Saha that he was offended by the wicketkeeper’s failure to respond to his calls and that he doesn’t take insults well.

Notably, Pragyan Ojha, the ICA’s representative on the BCCI Apex council, was one of many former cricketers who condemned the threats to Saha and called for a boycott of the journalist.

The BCCI is understood to have the authority to punish the journalist or the person in question if he or she apologises to the cricketer.

Former cricketers, including ex-head coach Ravi Shastri, Virender Sehwag, and RP Singh, have sent messages of support to Saha in response to the threats against the senior India wicketkeeper.

India did not select Saha in the 18-man squad for the upcoming two-Test series, and the wicketkeeper told the media that the team management and selection committee told him that they intend to look beyond him and groom a young wicketkeeper.
