Following Arsenal’s 1-2 defeat to Everton former Manchester United player Garry Neville has claimed that Arsenal Boss Mickel Arteta is would sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if given the opportunity.
The Gabonese was dropped to the bench for Tuesday’s defeat against Everton, with Eddie Nketiah coming on as a substitute before the skipper, who got to play only five minutes at the end.
The striker missed a glorious chance to equalize at Goodison Park which was the last kick of the game that could have helped the Gunners to earn 1 point.
Neville has claimed that the situation between Aubameyang and Arteta was ‘awkward’ and could ‘sour’ further.
He said: ‘I think there’ll be a problem with Aubameyang after this. I don’t think he’ll like the idea of Nketiah coming on or being subbed full stop.
‘There’s always a little bit of a bug between Arteta and Aubameyang, I know he’s the captain but he leaves him out and it feels like something a bit awkward.
‘It’s going to cause a problem and I bet if he could get a bit of money for him and get someone else they would.
‘And I bet if Aubameyang could he would move on as well because it could turn a little sour.’
Neville claims there are plenty of positives in this young Arsenal side, he believes the young players need more help from the experienced players if they are to find ways of getting through difficult moments in games.
The Gabonese has misfired this season and has scored only 4 goals in 14 matches in the Premier League. His performances in the past few seasons have not been the same as when he first arrived in North London. He scored 22 goals in the 18/19 season as was the joint top scorer in the league but since then his numbers have gone down.
Arsenal have now suffered back-to-back losses and their hopes of challenging for the top 4 have been dented. But the team has shown a lot of promise with Martin Odegaard scoring goals in successive matches. They will face Southampton next at the Emirates.
