CWG:Mary Kom out of Commonwealth Games trials due to injury

CWG:Veteran Indian boxer MC Mary Kom was forced to withdraw midway through the 48kg trials of the Commonwealth Games on Friday after suffering a leg injury. The 6-time world champion was injured in the first round of the 48 kg semi-final. With his withdrawal, Haryana’s Neetu entered the final of the Commonwealth Games trials at the Indira Gandhi International Stadium here. Last Commonwealth Games (2018) gold medalist Mary Kom fell in the ring in the first round of the bout.

The 39-year-old tried to compete by getting up, but after being hit with a couple of punches, she lost her balance and sat down holding her left leg. He then had to leave the ring and the referee declared Neetu the winner. MC Mary Kom, the most successful Indian boxer, withdrew from the World Championship and Asian Games to focus on next month’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The Birmingham Commonwealth Games will be held from 28 July to 8 August. For the first time, women’s cricket has also been included in the games. It will be compared to T20. Indian team is also joining in this. Talking about the games, players from about 72 countries will be involved in it. The Games are being organized for the third time in England. Earlier, games have been organized in London in 1934 and in Manchester in 2002.
