Christian Erikson makes national team comeback

Danish player Christian Erikson is all set to make his national team comeback in the Denmark national football team after suffering a cardiac arrest in the Euro 2020 tournament which took place in June last year. The 30 year old footballer had earlier made his comeback after the incident when he signed for Premier League’s newly promoted side Brentford FC.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has returned to the premier league after being fitted with an implantable defibrillator. Erikson has been selected in the national team for the games against Netherlands on March 26 in Amsterdam and against Serbia on March 29 in Copenhagen.

It will be an emotional moment for the Danish player as he will be representing his national team after his last game was one to forget. He suffered the cardiac arrest in the first game of the tournament against Finland and had to be revived on the pitch itself by the medical stuff. The whole footballing world was in shock as they saw Denmark’s player in that condition on the pitch.

He was then rushed to the hospital and had to be admitted for some time there where his pacemaker was implanted in his heart to regulate his heartbeat.

“He’s in good shape. I’ve followed him closely. I was recently in London to see him and evaluate him. I saw him in practice and during a match and physically he’s very, very sharp”

“There are always things that can be improved, that’s normal, but he’s playing at a very high level”

Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand told reporters.

The former Inter Milan player had to get his contract terminated mutually because of the Serie A rules not allowing a player to compete with a pacemaker. Erikson will now be hoping to find his form back again and represent his national team with full confidence and energy as well.
