Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to join FC Barcelona on a free transfer as he decided to not run out his expensive 350,000 pounds a week contract he has at Arsenal. The Gabon international was excluded from the matchday squad on some occasions because of disciplinary issues with the club. His manager Mikel Arteta has publicly told the people that it was the former Arsenal’s skipper behavior that led to him being out of the squad. It is being reported that Aubameyang took considerable pay cuts in order to complete the move. Previously, his move to the Spanish side had been hindered due to the financial disagreements between him and the club.
Arsenal didn’t stop the 32-year-old from leaving and stripped him of his captaincy earlier as well. Aubameyang has scored 92 goals in 163 games for the London outfit and was the 2018/19 golden boot winner as well. He was a fan favorite and renewed his contract in 2020 as well. Things were going well for him until he was left out of the team because of his disciplinary issues which were not acceptable for his manager Mikel Arteta and for the club as well.
With the departure of Aubameyang, Arsenal are left with two proper strikers in the squad – Nketiah and Lacazette. Both of the players have their contracts running out at the end of the season as well and it will be exciting to see whether the club would bring in any recruitment at the end of the season. Arsenal would be saving a minimum of 25 million pounds in wages after Aubameyang’s departure and can use the money for new signings as well.
